Un avión de US Airways vuelo 1549, que despegó del aeropuerto de La Guardia fue a 3:26 pm con destino a Charlotte, Carolina del Norte y había 146 pasajeros y 5 miembros de la tripulación. El avión, según el informe de noticias, pudo impactar una bandada de aves. El piloto intentó regresar al aeropuerto cuando el avión cayó en el Hudson.
